The Brown County Art Guild is hosting the 3rd Annual Brown County Art Colony Weekend in Nashville, Indiana September 8, 9 & 10, 2017. The Art Colony Weekend celebrates the rich history of Brown County with an art experience around every corner, allowing visitors to see, taste, and smell all the Village offers and is presented in conjunction with the T.C. Steele State Historic Site.

The events will begin with a private Plein Air Gathering for Guild Artist Members on Friday, September 8 and end with the closing reception at the Brown County Art Guild on Sunday, September 10. The paint out is open to all (but limited to 60 total participants) and painters can sign up early here: http://www.bcartguildshop.com/classes--workshops or click here to download a PDF of the registration form.


  • Friday , September 8- See artists demonstrating their craft around the Village. Look for Art Colony Weekend signs at restaurants and other establishments and enjoy special menu items from participating venues. 
  • Saturday, September 9- The 29th annual Great Outdoor Art Contest at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. (registration available August 1, 2017-day of contest). This year’s PaintOut judges will be Bob and Ellie Haan, Maggie Rapp, and Dale Popovich. Contest judges will offer two painting demonstrations during the day, designed for beginning artists and those who would like to get started painting en plein air. First place and People’s Choice winning artwork will be displayed at the Brown County Art Guild following the PaintOut.
  • Saturday, September 9- Attend the Artist Reception and Wet Paint Sale from 6-8 p.m. at the Brown County Art Guild where you can view and purchase new work from Guild Artist Members. Visitors can enjoy light refreshments and beer from Big Woods Brewery with music by Amanda Webb. “Painterly Companions,” an exhibit celebrating the camaraderie and relationships that are built between artists and their subjects through the creation of art, will also be on display. This event is free and open to the public.
  • Saturday, September 9- Anabel Hopkins Fine Art and Hoosier Artist Gallery will host musician Todd Mack from 5-7 p.m. in the courtyard and visitors can enjoy watching artists working outdoors.
  • Sunday, September 10- Villagescape Plein Air Paint Out 7 a.m.- 1 p.m. See artists painting scenes in and around the village in a competition with a top prize of $1000. Works will be available for purchase at the Brown County Art Guild following the paint out.
  • Sunday, September 10- 1:00-3:00 p.m. Participate in the first "Community Paint-Along" that will take place at Tilton Corner, the northeast corner of the Village Green. Sponsored by Art Alliance Brown County, a local artist organization, the event will be free and open to all ages. Large panels will be available along with all materials, for participants to paint a section with their own design. Learn about the Art Alliance at www.browncountyartalliance.org
